The Yoga of the Yoni is for women who wish to ignite their vibrancy, passion and sensuality. This is a course of work within our Island School of Yoga Radiance Course, supporting womens' sexual and psycho-sexual growth and healing on the Isle of Wight and online.
‘Female sensual pleasure, rightly understood, is not just about sexuality, or just about pleasure. It serves, also, as a medium of female self-knowledge and hopefulness; female creativity and courage; female focus and initiative, female bliss and transcendence; and as medium of sensibility that feels very much like freedom. To understand the vagina properly is to realise that it is not only coextensive with the female brain, bit is also essentially, part of the female soul.’ (Naomi Woolf)
And yet, how much to we know, do we share, do we dare ask for?
When a woman is ready to unapologetically step into her deep, body of knowledge, her raw, awe-inspiring truth, then we are touching our deepest intuition, our connection to creative source. The trantricas teach that this is where our humanity and our divinity connect.
And yet… statistics on sex are disheartening. Twenty percent of couples have sex 10 times a year or less. 30% of men and 50% of women report having no sex drive. And whilst men have orgasms 75% of the time, women orgasm only 28% of the time during sex (Regina Thomashauer).
Familiarity, cliteracy (yes, it's a word, claim it!), pleasure and unashamed visitations to the soul garden of the senses are powerful tools in self-realisation for every woman and yogini. Tapping into the essence of Shakti and owning our sensuality are lessons to be reminded of as we ‘relearn our own loveliness’.
And the good news… research has shown that a healthy libido has significant health benefits; boosting the immune system, promoting cardiovascular health, alleviating stress and increasing longevity (Christine Northrup).
How do you tap back into the bubbling spring of your sensuality? We cultivate more than familiarity, we come to know a sensitive awareness of the fullness of our body. We unsubscribe to the outdated, self limiting stories that a patriarchal sex industry and socio-religious history have told us. We connect with our own divine feminine and loose our fear of giving space to our fullness, gorgeousness and beauty. We loose our fear of being seen. We loose our fear for asking for what we desire.
How does yoga help with this work. Female sexual awakening is stoked through a sweet awareness of the senses that all yoga and mindfulness promote. The psychology of self love, self belief and self confidence all aid women in their blossoming. The safe, kind and loving space created through our highly trained and experienced teachers allows for trusted exchanges of information and ideas. All work is done alone on your mat, fully clothed and does not involve any direct physical touch in a public environment. Much of the yoga done looks like a normal yoga class, however our focus on deep internal bandhas, tantric breath and kundalini energy work are therapeutically choreographed to reveal your divine feminine and touch your soul.
So, locked down with nothing to do on a dark winter’s evening? Maybe consider joining a sisterhood of women wishing to reclaim their understanding of the divine feminine. Join our mailing list and be the first to hear of our new specialist workshops.
